The Model needed sleepwear and no way was I going to buy any! Up till now she has been wearing pjs but now she's starting to change her mind.
This pretty cotton seersucker with tiny lavender and white checks does the job perfectly I think and it's a really good weight for sleeping in too. The pattern, which is from this Japanese sewing book, is really for a pair of pyjamas but I drafted just the top and used an existing nightie for guidance on length. I made it on the large side, too, after all there's nothing worse than feeling constricted when you're trying to catch some zzzz and besides, that way it'll last a fair while too!
The original version calls for a little hand stitched smocking in the middle but the truth is I wanted it to be a quick job. So I stitched three lines of shirring instead which worked a treat and, seeing as a bobbin was already wound with shirring elastic from this dress, it ended up saving me yet more time!
Wishing you all sweet dreams tonight! Do you prefer pjs or a nightie?
She'll sleep well in such a lovely nightie I am sure. I am a nightie girl these days though I used to prefer PJs when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It's the colour of lavender, so she's bound to have a good nights sleep in it!
ReplyDeleteI prefer nighties, I hate being too warm in bed and I think they're cooler than PJ's!

Cute nightie! I always wore a nightie when I was younger but I've been converted to PJ's for a good 10 years now, worn with one of those little thin strapped vest tops or a t-shirt when it's cold. (Although, I do ditch the bottoms when it's really hot & just wear knickers instead)
ReplyDeleteLovely gingham nightie Kate - sewing sleepwear is so useful and economica (I am not sure about the UK, but in Canada the selection is poor and overpriced). My littlest one only where's nighties whereas I am a pj gal. We have not turned on the heat yet so I am trying to convince both of them to sleep in footie pj otherwise they end up in our bed complaining of cold!
ReplyDeleteIt is very sweet Kate and she is sure to sleep beautifully. The shirring was a neat trick (although a bit of smocking might be very soothing as the nights get longer). As I get older I seem to get more and more tangled in my lovely cotton nighties so I've become a pj girl - different lengths for different seasons. T x
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I am officially "Hot in bed"!!! So I start off in jammies and end up in nothing!!! That nightie is really pretty. xxxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty lavender nightie, it looks so fresh and lovely to wear. Sometimes I wear nighties and sometimes pj's...it depends on the temperature!

How pretty! And I like the dolly too.
ReplyDeleteI'm also officially 'Hot In Bed' so wear as little as possible but just enough to be decent! Normally pj's though.

Adorable!
ReplyDeleteJust what every girl needs for sweet dreams!
What a great idea to give her plenty of room in her new nightie. I love slippery material so you can turn over and the material slides with you instead of staying behind and getting all tangled up!
ReplyDeletePJs or nightie? - well it's been shortie PJs all winter but a nightie with shoestring straps may be cooler in the Summer heat.
cheers
That is so pretty and fresh. My girls had assorted lavender checks and gingham for their bed covers and curtains and such when they were pre teens ... you've taken me down memory lane with this post :D
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so pretty....love the colour and the fabric...from another nightie girl!

Very sweet nightie! I love gingham.
ReplyDeleteNightie in the warmer months and jimjams when its nippy!
ReplyDeleteLovely lavender shades, just right for sweet dreams.
I would have loved this nightie when I was a child! Now that I'm a boring adult it's PJ bottoms & a t-shirt...
ReplyDeleteI love it and I bet she does too! Sadly my daughter is too big for pretty nighties now and like pjs better. I wear pjs so I suppose that why she does too :)
