We went here today. It's named quite aptly, given the wet weather we've been having lately, and the rain held off just long enough for us to enjoy a stroll around the grounds and visit the many hides in search of a better view.

It never ceases to amaze me that an oasis of peace and tranquility, not to mention the abundance of birdlife, can be found in the big city. In fact there is just the roar of air traffic every five minutes and the blocks of flats on the edges that give the game away.

This WWF is one of nine around the country but the only one in London and although I'm not the keenest of bird watchers, I've been inspired to return in warmer weather when there will be a different variety of species to be seen and more activities for the children to do.

What did you do today?

  1. wasn't half as much fun as your day-it was boring in fact!

  2. oh your day out sounds lovely x I cleaned out the kitchen cupboards......

  5. I have just been to church...the first time in three weeks as my knee has been really sore for those weeks...its finally feeling a lot better..so I really enjoyed being there and seeing people I know. Had a divine (ha!ha!) cuppucino afterwards in the cafe. I love those last two bird photos..they capture the beauty of the birds so well!

  6. Hi Kate, Happy New Year to you!
Stayed home I'm afraid, Today I am going to venture into my poor snow flattened garden and see what can be done!
    Loved your 2010 mosaics, gorgeous!

  7. Went off yestrday to take some photos of the floods we're having here. Must go and see what the situation is today. Fortunately we're far enough away from the river, (we hope) not to be affected.
I love that last photo. I love the photos of your kittens too. How lovely to give them a home. I expect they will bring you years of fun and love. I hope the tree survived in the end.
    Wishing you a great year!

  8. That's another of the places on my list of places to visit in London as I had planned to do it with a friend last year and for some reason we didn't. Thanks for your comment on my blog - I do come up to town on a fairly regular basis these days and will certainly let you know in advance next time! Another place I want to visit is that fabric shop in Clapham you (it was you wasn't it?) mentioned.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  9. It looks like a lovely place to visit - I love the picture at the end of the bird peeping through the fence.

It's so nice to have places like this to visit, especially so close to a city.

I was at a Christening yesterday and a lovely time was had by all.

  10. Aww thanks for your comment.. not sure you would be that impressed if you saw them close up though, particularly the crochet :o)

Still, I love a challenge and will keep plodding on until I get it right.

As for tagging you for the award it really is my pleasure as I love your blog.

  11. Out having a walk in the countryside this morning. I love places like that especially when they are in cities. Its like bringing the outside in. xxxxx

  12. I really love that nosy old bird in your last photo! It's great you have this beautiful haven for wildlife in your city. We have the WWT in Arundel, not far from us. Should I know who the sculpture is of? x

There's nothing like a comment to stop me feeling like I'm talking to myself. If you leave one here I'll pop one back here too, so don't forget to come back and continue the conversation ..
