textured

My in flight, loafing in the sunshine, Summer holiday knitting project. Textured shawl. I must have put in a lot of flying and lazing hours, because this shawl is enormous, I just kept going till all the balls were used up and then went and bought one more.

One of the first things I ever knitted was a moss stitch scarf for my father which, like this shawl, was made with Fez. He's been telling me ever since how much he loves his scarf, not just because his daughter made it for him but because of the yarn which kept him toasty warm throughout the last couple of bitter, British winters.

So when I saw that Fez has been discontinued and my local yarn store was destashing at a decent discount, I filled my shopping basket. This one is a wonderful subtle, go with anything grey but I'm now thinking I should grab a few more colours for good measure, particularly since I know my father is going to be proved right. You see, my textured shawl is going to be just the ticket when the temperature drops and, on the plus side, with its mammoth almost blanket like proportions, I am forecast never to be cold again.

Full details and a few more pics can be found here on Ravelry.

Happy week, everyone. What are you up to?

  1. It looks great and so useful both on cool summer evenings and in the winter months too. One of those things you wear and wear and can even be used as a lap quilt too!

  2. It's gorgeous and beautifully photographed too. I often crochet on flights, but never knit, as I always worry that my needles will be confiscated, and I'll then be left with nothing to keep my hands busy.

  11. That is one gorgeous shawl! I've not heard of Fez yarn, and regret that...now it's discontinued. Your exquisite knitting and that yarn make a perfect combination.

Thank you also for the link to the pattern.

  18. Golly gosh, it looks very warm indeed Kate, nothing like a father's wisdom! I love that it's so huge too, looks like it was a pleasure to knit and I am loving the grey too. I'm busy forcing myself to knit a scrappy cardigan to use up all my dk scraps, it's looking rather hideous with all the stripes but it's hopefully going to keep me cosy when I've had my bath and get into my PJ's this winter! x Penny

  19. That wool is the perfect colour and looks so so soft to the touch. You have chosen the best pattern for the shawl as it does look like a giant warm blanket to wrap around you but it looks ultra stylish at the same time. I would buy some fez but my wool stash is overflowing. Must start making things. xx

I think of you this winter snuggled up in your Fez wrap whenever I snuggle up in mine :)

  25. I love your shawl. I have been seeing them in every magazine I pick up, even old ones, or on every new blog I find (like yours, hi!). It must be a sign that I have to make one...in fact last year I did make a beautiful blue shawl and I wanted to keep it...but I made the mistake of laying it on a shelf in my shop and, ba boom, it was sold. I need to knit one again, and this time I'm keeping it!
