I wouldn't say I've defected from my beloved grey, but I'm ever so quickly falling in love with brown. Who knows whether it's the season, being surrounded by fallen leaves and all that, but nevertheless I'm definitely rather taken with it.
As the title suggests, this is
Lonely Tree, a free download on Ravelry and, let's face it, you always know something's going to be good when it's been knitted by hundreds of others before you. I highly recommend this one, which I knitted to pattern for a kerchief as opposed to larger shawl. However, there is a
subsequent chart and
similar pattern giving the option of a much larger wrap. More pics and details of my Lonely Tree are
here on Ravelry.
Talking of a lonely tree, we have our very own here in our sitting room now (decorated by the Model). Although far from lonely I must say, it is festooned with the decorations I nearly forgot to bring over with us but, boy, am I glad we did. All that remains to be seen is whether those pesky cats can keep out of the branches this year. One moggy in particular has had an all too recent run in with a conifer though. I knew something wasn't right when she didn't show up for her afternoon siesta and when I took the torch out in search of our beloved Millie Mittens, she was eventually located several metres up a branchless, slippery wet, tree. Way too high up for us to bring her down and the fire brigade didn't want to know, we were lucky to find an arborist who had clocked off for the weekend but had nothing better to do on a damp Friday night. Apparently his room mate had always wanted to see him in action so they both came along with a 'what the heck attitude', retrieved Millie Mittens who was more than happy to be bundled into a bag and absailed back down to the ground. Our Prince Charmings were more than welcome to their share of our bottle of wine and offer of dinner for who knows how long our furry one would have had to stay up there without them!
So, after that sweet and fuzzy warm tale, I wish you all a good week, with happy preparations for the festive season. See you soon!
Such a pretty tree, thank goodness for aborists, not sure what I would have done if the fire brigade had let me down! probably attempted to shin up the tree and break an arm in the process! The shawl is beautiful, your projects seriously make me want to take up knitting. Have a lovely Christmas, expect Poole photos on instagram soon :) x
ReplyDeletethe shawl looks great---perfect size to cuddle around the house with!!! (poor kitty----i never would have thought to call an arborist...how lucky you were! The only 'arborist' around here that I know of is about 85 years old....!!! definitely past his climbing years.)
ReplyDeleteLove the little shawl and the tree too. So glad yur kitty was rescued and surely she will avoid climbing fir trees even if decorated in future but then with cats you never can tell!
ReplyDeleteAwe love the tale of Millie Mittens, let's hope a lesson has been learned and she avoids all trees from now on including your beautiful Christmas tree!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your kerchief, just gorgeous, I really love brown. :)

I love the kerchief! It makes me want to order some Madeline Tosh yarn. I've yet to knit with it and the brown really is lovely. I'm glad to hear kitty is safe and sound. What an adventure for her:)
ReplyDeletebeautiful shawl! I usually love brown and have fallen in love with gray ;)
ReplyDeleteNaughty kitty! I'm glad the story has a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteYour tree and shawl are both so beautiful!
I like the brown kerchief. I find the colour is such warm one on a snowy, cold day such as this one. Your tree is beautiful, but not too attractive to your feline population, I trust.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope not! :)
Deletefunny story. AND gorgeous little shawl!!

ReplyDeleteThat "Lonely Tree" scarf is a real beauty...the lacy pattern and that picot edging are perfect together, and your choice of color is just right!
ReplyDeleteAnd...that Christmas tree is a classic!
Best wishes. xo
What a great kitty story Kate, pleaded to hear that Ms Millie is safe back down to the ground! I hope she doesn't get tempted by your beautifully dressed tree.
ReplyDeleteYour kerchief is yet another triumph of beauty made with your fair hands, you have great style and brown is not the boring colour most people think it might be x Have fun with all your festivities too x Penny
Love that sweet tale. Happy Holidays to you Kate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful knitting. Personally I think your brown is borderline grey/brown. Therefore you haven't strayed too far. Bonus that brown color is stunning.
Brown is certainly among my loves Kate ... and that shawl looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very Merry Christmas xxx
