Kaari, by Norah Gaughan, was absolutely joyous to knit, something I had an inkling would be the case given the praise already bestowed upon it by fellow Ravellers. And finishing it has stoked a fire in my belly so strong I already have the next project on my needles.
I took the advice of previous Kaari knitters and went down a needle size to get correct gauge. Having said that, at one point I thought it might turn out too small but I ploughed on regardless and am so pleased I did. There were a few challenges along the way but again, the Ravelry forum came up trumps with good, solid advice where needed. Four inches worth of purl stitch on the neckband could easily have been rather dull but by that stage I knew I was on the home straight which made it bearable.
The yarn I used was Cascade 220 Heathers. It's extremely good value because, let's face it, nobody knits to save money. And of course it's grey .. what else? Cascade took a little getting used to, and I actually thought it may turn out rather scratchy but I'm currently revising that opinion and think we'll be ok .. me and my Kaari. Did I mention I'm in love? More details and pics can be found on my Ravelry page.
So, fellow blogging buddies. Have you got anything on your needles? Do tell, I'd so love to hear ..
Happy week, everyone.
That's gorgeous! I love the colour and styling.....I especially like the pockets running the other way, simple but lovely. How nice that it turned out perfectly despite a few worries mid-knit....do you love it?
ReplyDeleteClever you!
Wow, Kate, it is absolutely stunning. Could this be the project that takes me back on to the dark side of garment knitting? I'm off to check it out on Ravelry ...
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Kate, really beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very long time since I actually knitted a garment especially for myself. I am knitting a scarf but even it's a slow process because I have become obsessed with my crochet hooks and the only things I have knitted recently are bunny cardies!!
Enjoy your lovely new sweater!
Have a great week,
Vivienne x

ReplyDeleteFabulous sweater Kate, just the ticket for wrapping up warm on this cold day. You are clever.
ReplyDeleteLoved your post on Greenwich too. Reminds me of my visit back in April when we saw Les Miserables being filmed there! Cannot wait for the film to come out in January.

Love it! It looks so comfy and it is one of my favourite colours. Unfortunately I cannot really knit at the mo due to a problem with my shoulder but I have plenty of crochet project lined up for the Autumn/Winter. Hope those naughty kitties don't cause you any more knitting grief! x

Kate this is glorious, beautifully worked, the perfect colour, and you look fabulous in it! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI am holding off knitting any new sweaters for myself until I have lost all the post-steroids weight, which is going to take a while, but I shall keep this pattern in mind for when I get there :)
oh Kate it is perfect, love the style, colour and pocket detailing. I'm knitting beanies for Christmas presents but keep getting distracted by a scarf I am crocheting for myself.

No wonder you're in love. I've had this sweater in my queue forever. Yours is lovely!
ReplyDeletetruly gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! And super-warm, I bet. I really like the ribbing at the neckline.
ReplyDeleteI'm knitting a paper dolls jumper for my little girl at the moment in some nice artesano alpaca. Just a brief hiatus as I discovered in spite of having 101 different sized circulars in my collection, I was lacking the ones I actually needed!
I am so bookmarking this page! I've never knitted anything more challenging than a scarf before but I love that jumper - despite it being 27 degrees (Celsius, ie, very warm) today and summer's still a month away.
