wiksten tank

Have you looked out of the window yet? I suddenly spied the sunshine we've been promised today and got the self timer going on my latest quick fix. Loving these quick sewing projects!

After the success of the Tova (which I have worn a lot), I bought the other Wiksten pattern available, the Tank. To be honest, I nearly didn't buy this one because it's such a simple piece. However, there are so many rave reviews out there, and I'm never one to miss out ...

It was a really lovely project to do. Truly simple, indeed, so I took time to get it perfectly perfect, even matching up the pocket to the rest of the fabric front. Can you see it? This top has French seams, which I'd never done before. They are wonderful to do and look so neat too, not to mention a brilliant solution if you don't own an overlocker/serger.

The fabric was one of two lots brought back from Maiwa in Vancouver last month. It has been naturally dyed and hand printed in India on organic cotton and I absolutely loved sewing with it. It's lovely and soft but because of the lack of chemicals in the dyeing process, apparently the colours won't be as durable as other 'normal' fabrics. We shall see.

It's all set to be 25 degrees in London this afternoon. Could it be Summer, perhaps? Fingers crossed it is!

Hoping you have a sunny view today too.

  1. The fabric you brought back from Canada is beautiful. Lovely piece on you! I might have to invest in this pattern, I live in tops like these during the summer months. Enjoy London's sunshine!

  3. The colors may not be permanent, but hey, you avoided all those poisonous dyes. The fabric looks just the perfect for this kind of top! Lovely!

  6. Beautifully sewn Kate and what pretty fabric. There doesn't seem to be any fabric shops around here nowadays, but Vancouver is a little too far for a day out! Hope you're wearing it this afternoon.

    1. Hi Emma, yes it's hand blocked. There are quite a few little imperfections where the blocks have been joined but I like that!

  13. Hi Kate, that's a lovely summery top, the kind that only looks better as it is worn and faded a little too. I hope proper summer days are on their way for you all so you can get plenty of wear from it and a little golden tan as well!

  14. Fab! I was lucky enough to collaborate on a print design for Wiksten and I can't say enough good things about Jenny, and her work. I plan on whipping up a few of the tops for myself, I hope i can do as good of a job as you!

  17. Love that tank, the pocket is invisible- well done! And I love that sort of fabric. Not a fan of French seams though- I just use my narrow hem foot and seal the suckers up XD
